ART PROGRAM

Huang Yanyan

(b. 1988, Sichuan)
Huang’s art is influenced by her Chinese heritage as well as the art scenes of Florence and California. Her abstract pieces explore the notions of repetition and rhythm.

The calligraphic strokes are passionate, while also illustrating contradictory notions of spontaneity and restraint. For her silk paintings, Huang wants them "to be infused with power and using a silk base provides a great pre-existing backdrop of mystery.”  The materiality of the silk makes the works fluid, especially when hung from the ceiling where a slight draft of air conditioning accentuates the movement and fluidity of the artwork.

Huang’s work has been exhibited internationally in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, New York and Rome.

Yanyan Huang attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 2012.  She currently splits her time across Beijing, New York, and Florence, Italy.
