Han Bing

(b. 1986, Shandong)
Han Bing’s paintings of cityscapes are the surreal reproduction of everyday scenes, scenes from documentaries and movies, and of her own photos and interactions with that space. Many of the cityscapes were inspired by her own photography of dilapidated buildings, subterranean stations across Manhattan, and street scenes.

Han’s images are two-dimensional representations that remind us of torn posters and fragments of advertisements pasted on walls in the process of being peeled away. Though Han’s paintings are representational in their mode of expression, the images themselves never seem to point to a specific source.

Born in 1986 in Shandong, China, Han Bing received an MFA from the Parsons the New School of Design, New York, and also holds a MFA and a BFA from Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing. She has had solo exhibitions with Night Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; and Antenna Space in Shanghai, China. She has been included in group exhibitions at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China; Bernier/Eliades Gallery, Hong Kong, China; Tang Contemporary Art Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand; and D-Space, Beijing, China. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
