Chen Qingqing

(b. 1953, Beijing)
Chen Qingqing is a leading representative of Chinese feminist art and best known for her silhouette-like recreations of Qing and Ming Dynasty clothing, which are woven using dried flowers and grasses, then mounted onto flat surfaces.

Chen Qingqing launched her art career in the 1990s. She had studied English/German literature in Beijing and Vienna, and was practicing Chinese medicine prior to finding her love for art. Chen has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions in China, Vienna, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Perth, Belgium, Sweden and Korea,  and was the first foreigner to be invited to join the Austrian Artists’ Association.

Chen was born in 1953 in Beijing where she currently resides and works.
